Lipid Replacement Therapy, may assist in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia fatigue.  Higher than normal levels of free radical damage (known as oxidative stress) are found in both CFS and Fibromyalgia patients. Lipid replacement therapy or (LRT) is used to produce healthy cell membranes that are less susceptible to a free radical attack, to repair membranes quickly once they are damaged, to increase cellular energy production, and to prevent further free radical activity. LRT could have several benefits in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome including increased energy production. Some researchers believe that the fatigue in chronic illnesses such as CFS and Fibromyalgia occurs when free radicals inhibit the cells of mitochondria from producing energy. A lipid replacement product called Propax NT was used in a recent study to reduce fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia in cancer and chronically fatigued patients. In one study it was found that both mitochondrial function and fatigue were substantially improved in both moderate and severely chronically fatigued and Fibromyalgia patients.

The integrity of mitochondrial membranes is critical to cell function and energy metabolism. When mitochondrial membrane lipids are damaged by oxidation, they must be repaired or replaced in order to maintain the production of cellular energy to alleviate fatigue. Dietary LRT plus antioxidants has proven to be a valuable tool in maintaining mitochondrial function and preventing fatigue, and it should be an important part of treatment strategies for CFS and other fatiguing illnesses.

Fatigue occurs naturally during aging and in most degenerative diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases, and is the most common complaint of patients seeking general medical care. Lipid Replacement Therapy administered using an all-natural nutritional dietary supplement containing membrane glycophospholipids and antioxidants (NT Factor) can reduce or prevent fatigue and restore mitochondrial function.

One such LRT dietary supplement is NT Factor. NT Factor has been used in a dietary LRT study with severe chronic fatigued patients to reduce their fatigue. Findings were that fatigue was reduced approximately 40.5%, from severe to moderate fatigue, after eight weeks of supplementation with Propax containing NT Factor. Propax mainly used for cancer patients. Propax supplementation in patients receiving chemotherapy showed LRT improved fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, impaired taste, constipation, insomnia and other quality of life indicators.

Propax Gold is the supplement, glycophospholipid-antioxidant -vitamin mixture with NT Factor used in the study above. I researched this product. You can  purchase it online, but I couldn’t find it at any local pharmacies. Several companies online do carry Propax. It is manufactured by a U.S. based company called Nutritional Therapeutics, as a complete delivery lipid replacement package. Besides the many vitamins and minerals it also contains amino acids, the antioxidants and probiotics. Propax has high omega 3 fatty acid levels and no omega 6 fatty acids. It runs about $75.00 for a 60 day supply package. This will also supplement all the daily vitamins you are currently taking, so it doesn’t really cost that much.
